March 23-28 Irvine, CA

Quick turn around!

I flew home to South Carolina from San Jose, CA on March 21st. On March 23rd I hopped on a plane and flew back West again to Irvine, CA

The time at home was minimal but I try to make the most of it. Go to Austins baseball Game, spend time with Adrienne, do some "chores" around the house to help out. Pretty much try to do as much as I can in the short time I'm there. Fortunately there wont be many of these two day turn arounds, but there's a few.

The flight was fine, once again I have been blessed with zero travel issues so far. No delays, no gate changes, no luggage issues, no security line problems, nothing. It's been great and I am prayerful that it stays that way.

I arrive at Ronald Reagan airport and pick up my rental car, Where I also have not encountered a single problem. We are using National Rental, whom I have never used before, and I will say that they have been great to deal with.

I make my way to the hotel which is about 3 minutes from the airport. We are staying at the Marriott Irvine. As I pulled up I thought "wow, nice looking place". When I walked in the lobby, same thought. The lobby had a very nice gathering area, a sushi bar, a bar and a restaurant. Very clean and nicely decorated.
I check in and get my room and it too was nice. Nothing special, just nice. Then I realized, no fridge, no microwave, nothing. Oh well, guess I'll eat out or maybe even in the hotel restaurant.
I unpack my stuff and head to the site.

I have a new Android phone on this trip and Im not really happy about it because I am not familiar with the software. I have been using a Blackberry for the past ten years and I am also a Mac fan, so the Android platform is new to me, therefore frustrating. But I managed to figure out how to use the navigation on the phone and it got me to the location. Wild Rivers water park.

This is a pretty small, close quarters lot for all the events we had going on. Again, the Volt would be on an off site street drive due to the limited space.

I lay out the route that we will be using. It will be just over a mile and has two red lights we will have to deal with. The lights change pretty quick so I am not anticipating a problem.

The set up went nice and easy and the weather was nice. Very nice compared to San Jose. I had not heard the weather forcast, but I was looking forward to some nice sunny California weather.

That evening I get back to the hotel and I'm pretty hungry. I check out the hotel restaurant menu and WOW, nevermind. I cannot justify a $9 salad. And the prices went up from there. So, I found a Domino's pizza around the corner and got dinner :-)

The next morning I wake up to head out to the event and RAIN! REALLY? I mean come on! This cannot be happening. But alas, it is. So, get out the rain coat and off to the site I go.

The event want well. attendance was pretty good, at least for the Volt tent. The team I am working with is awesome, and they were movin' people through the line. IT was a beautiful thing. On the first day attendance for the event as a whole was low, I think it was like 700 people, 450 of them were from the Volt tent! It was great. Those may not be the exact numbers, but they represent the point I am trying to get across, which is that the Volt team ROCKS.

The rest of the event went well. Participation could have been better but there is nothing we can do about that. The weather cooperated for the most part. I even had a chance to take my jacket off a couple of times.

Things finish up nicely and a few of the guys from the Volt team and I head out to dinner. We end up at California Pizza. We had a good time chatting and I had the best salmon I have ever had, anywhere. I know it seems crazy, and I almost didn't order salmon at a pizza place because it seemed a bit like taking the chances of ordering a cheeseburger at a Chinese restaurant, but I did it. And I am so glad I did.

Now its home for about a week before I come back to California again.
